What I’m Looking For

New Shores Ventures is looking to acquire and operate one established Michigan business with durable demand, loyal customers, and a strong local reputation. My focus is on practical, relationship-driven businesses where trust, reliability, and operational consistency matter.

  • Location

My primary focus is Northern Michigan, with openness to the right opportunity elsewhere in Michigan or the broader Great Lakes region.

I’m especially interested in locally rooted businesses connected to the region’s communities, infrastructure, and freshwater economy.

  • Areas of Interest

I am open across several practical industries, but I am not looking at everything. I’m most drawn to durable, relationship-driven businesses where repeat customers, reliability, and local reputation matter.

Areas I’m especially interested in include:

    • Marina, marine infrastructure, and waterfront service businesses
    • Environmental, water, or infrastructure-related services
    • Equipment service and repair and specialty distribution
    • Safety, inspection, and compliance services
    • Essential business-to-business service companies
  • Business Characteristics

    Strong fits tend to have:

    • Repeat or recurring customer demand
    • Loyal customers and a strong reputation
    • A committed team or second layer of leadership
    • Stable cash flow with opportunities for thoughtful growth
    • Low customer concentration
    • Opportunities for steady, thoughtful growth
  • Company Size

While every opportunity is different, I typically focus on established, profitable businesses with:

    • $2M – $20M in annual revenue
    • $500K – $2.5M in annual cash flow or EBITDA

That said, I care more about business quality, owner fit, and long-term potential than a perfect financial range.

What I am Looking for

New Shores Ventures is seeking a great Michigan-based business to steward long-term, with care for people, customers, and community—while continuing to grow what already works.

  • Location

Businesses located in Michigan or the broader Great Lakes region.

Having grown up in Northern Michigan and planning to build my life and career here, I’m especially interested in companies that play an important role in their local communities.

  • Industries

I’m particularly drawn to businesses connected to the industries and environments that define Michigan, including:

    • Marine and boating-related services
    • Environmental and water-related services
    • Safety, inspection, and compliance services
    • Essential business-to-business service companies

More broadly, I’m interested in companies connected to Michigan’s freshwater economy, sometimes referred to as the Great Lakes “blue economy.”

  • Company Size

While every opportunity is different, I typically focus on businesses with:

    • $2M – $20M in annual revenue
    • $500K – $2.5M in annual cash flow (EBITDA)

That said, I’m always open to conversations with owners whose businesses fall outside these ranges if there is a strong fit.

  • Business Characteristics

    Businesses with:

    • Strong reputations built over many years
    • Loyal customers and recurring business
    • Dedicated employees and strong culture
    • Stable cash flow with opportunities for thoughtful growth

Know a Business That Still Feels Like a Fit?

The criteria above describe the center of the bullseye, but great businesses do not always fit perfectly into a box. While I am generally not focused on restaurants, traditional retail, startups, staffing, commodity trucking, or distressed turnarounds, I would welcome an introduction to a strong Michigan business owner thinking about succession.
